About the Building Committee

The committee grew out of a desire, expressed in the 1970's, that Royalston should consider a combined Police and Fire Headquarters.  A small group chatting together on the Common one summer evening began to think about how this might happen.  Over time the scope of what became the Building Committee has grown to encompass the use and maintenance of all town owned building.  The current Royalston Building Committee is appointed annually by the Royalston Select Board.  This committee is to develop and implement long-term plans to provide needed office space for all town officials, boards and commissions and to oversee the maintenance of all town owned buildings.  The committee is also responsible for providing input and guidance to the long-term capital planning activities with the goal of having the needed funds available for the care of our buildings while not having any large capital expense surprises.

One of the first tasks undertaken by the current incarnation of this committee was to develop a set of guidelines for just what amount of space is required.  The Royalston Office Space Standards and Guidelines were developed and approved in February 2016.
