Cable Advisory Committee

Internet for Royalston

In early October, 2021, Royalston received a letter from Charter Communications expressing their interest in bringing fiber to the town. This is the formal notification the town has been waiting for and we have lost no time in moving forward.

At their October 19 meeting, the select board appointed Peter Gagliardi, Chris Haynes and Rick Martin to a Cable Advisory Committee. This committee will work with Charter and the Massachusetts Broadband Institute (MBI) to review documents and make recommendations to the board. We are grateful for their willingness to do this work on our behalf.

In addition to providing broadband, Charter is interested in offering a cable TV option to its Royalston customers. So, the committee’s first order of business will be to work with the Massachusetts Department of Telecommunications and Cable (DTC) to grant Charter a license to offer cable service in Royalston. Once the cable license is granted, Charter will begin to work with Verizon and National Grid to install their fiber cable. The completion of this installation can take up to two years.

Cable Advisory Committee’s meetings are open to the public and will be posted on My Town Government through the Royalston website.
