2009 Real Estate Bills were mailed March 6, 2009. The first half was due in April, and the 2nd half was due in May. These bills were for the tax year from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009. The bill contained two coupons, one for each payment. The April payment was for the tax bill that would normally have gone out the prior fall.

Q. The valuation is not correct on my bill. What do I do?

Contact the Assessors' Office.
The Assessors' office is responsible for setting the tax rate, determining the valuation for each property and how much tax is assessed. If you have questions about the content or valuation of your bill you need to contact the assessors office. If your bill is incorrect the assessors will issue an abatement to you.
Q. I need an abatement. What do I do?
A. Contact the Assessors' Office.
Abatement forms are available from the assessor's office and must be submitted directly to them. If appropriate they will issue an abatement, and send a copy of that abatement notice directly to you. They will also send a copy to the Collector's office to apply to your bill.

Q. What do the Assessors do?
A. Valuation.
The Assessing Department establishes market based valuation assessments for the real estate parcels and personal property estates in the Town of Royalston. Real estate valuations for fiscal 2008 are currently available.
A. Issue Tax Bills.
The Assessing Department sets the tax rate, and then determines all the values and content of the tax bill.
