Meeting Date: October 8, 2009
Members Present: Aaron
Ellison, Patti Carrier, Jack Morse, Christine Beckert Long,
Paul Montero
Chair:
Aaron Ellison
Clerk: Christine Beckert Long
The
meeting convened at 7:30 p.m. at town hall.
Internal matters:
Aaron announced that committee members Tom Musco has resigned and that the Selectboard appointed Paul Montero to his seat.
Open Space and Recreation Plan Update:
While the updated Open Space and Recreation Plan has not yet been approved by the state, the committee agreed to get started on one new action item, to “begin research into old roads in town, in order to identify which are still public ways, which are abandoned, and which are discontinued.” Paul will research the legal definitions of these terms.
National Scenic Trail:
Aaron announced that the newly designated New England National Scenic Trail (the former Metacomet-Monadnock Trail) will be overseen by the National Park Service and a new stewardship council to be made up of two individuals from each town the trail crosses—one to represent the interests of the town and one that of landowners. Paul agreed to attend the first council meeting informally and report on what it entails. (Note: After the committee meeting, Chris contacted Allen Young, who agreed to sit on the council as well, though not in time for that first meeting.)
Open Spaces:
Aaron reported that a state committee, citing high cost and low priority, has turned down a proposal to protect a parcel in the center of town the committee has been promoting for preservation. The committee will continue to watch for opportunities for protection.
The meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
